The NZNWS (The New Zealand Network for Women in Security) has teamed up with ZX Security to bring you the Operational Security and OSINT series. This is a two-part virtual workshop to introduce our women and our marginalized gender community to learn more about Operational Security and Open-Source Intelligence.

Operational Security

Overview: An overview of operational security processes and measures which can be adopted to keep yourself safe online.

Target Audience: Everyone!

Objective: Heighten Operational Security awareness.

Open-Source Intelligence

Overview: A whirlwind discussion of the tools, techniques and procedures used to conduct online investigations.

Target Audience: This presentation is useful as a starting point for those of you interested in investigating people and organisations, whether you work in law enforcement, intelligence, fraud or cyber security.

Objective: Increase the knowledge of attendees regarding Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) gathering.

Presenter Details:

Simon Howard

Simon Howard is the CTO and founder of ZX Security, a cyber security consultancy based in Wellington. Simon and his team spend their days testing the security of their customers’ networks, applications and people. They provide penetration testing, cloud security advice and cyber strategy and risk consultancy services. Simon also co-founded and assists with running Australasia’s largest hacker conference, Kiwicon (recently re-branded as Kawaiicon).

NZNWS Hosts Details:

Abby Zhang (NZNWS Chapter Lead)

Abby Zhang is a Security Analyst, Cloud and Fintech Security Researcher based in Auckland. Abby is an experienced cybersecurity and technology risk professional with years of professional experience in auditing, internal control, risk management and IAM. Abby has previously worked in large CPA Firms in China, where she worked in the banking and insurance sector.

In her spare time, Abby is playing HacktheBox labs where she has a Pro Hacker Rank and she is preparing for the OSCP. She is also a volunteer for Parkrun NZ and a Community Patroller for Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ).

Tash Bettridge (Co-founder of the NZNWS)

Tash is the co-founder of the New Zealand Network for Women in Security and is a Customer Success Account Manager at Microsoft. Her focus at Microsoft is on the relationships and support with New Zealand SMB/SMC Customers and Partners. Tash has been featured in the Tribe of Hackers book series called Tribe of Hackers Security Leaders which featured other well-known international security leaders and uprising security leaders.

NZNWS Moderator Details:

Amina Aggarwal (ITSP Magazine Podcast Host, NZNWS Ambassador Lead)

Amina has a broad range of experience that is more than 10 years in Information Technology. She is currently working as a Security Design Consultant at Spark for the largest ISP in New Zealand and provides cyber security advice to Spark’s internal and external customers. Amina has been involved with the New Zealand Network for Women in Security (NZNWS) since 2020.

In her spare time, Amina is also a Podcast host for her own podcast called Living And Breathing Technology with the ITSP Magazine. She also represented WiCyS in the panel discussion at a global security event hosted by Devo and ITSP Magazine to acknowledge Analysts for the work done in the cyber security field called “SOC Analyst Appreciation Day”.

Ann Babuji – ITIL (NZNWS Ambassador)

Ann is an ITIL certified IT Engineer who started her career in 2007 as an Analyst Programmer with a US-based IT firm back in India. She moved to Qatar in 2009 and worked as a System Analyst with Postal Corporation and later as a Web Developer with a Canadian College. Ann is passionate about refining herself and completed a Master of Engineer Practice (MEP) from Victoria University in Wellington, specializing in cybersecurity. Today she works as an Information Security Analyst with the Ministry of Justice and has a passion to be involved with the NZNWS to inspire a few young women in their journey.
